Editing configuration of the component using ad-hoc doesn't work for port of a given component, i.e. new port is not available nor it's settings are created

Yes, this is a known issue. They way ports bindings is implemented right now makes it hard to make it configurable at runtime. Hence fixing it requires some significant rework.

I am closing this ticket, as the configuration will be reworked anyway as part of Bartosz configuration framework effort.
