When the client starts after a fresh install it shows all the groups in the roster. When the roster layout is changed to roster flat in the configuration it still displays roster groups. It does not help to disconnect/reconnect.

The only way to get flat view of the roster is to quit the client and start it again. However, this seems to be unacceptable for average user.
