https://www.otr.im/ this is in most repos, example: pidgin, 'sudo apt install pidgin-otr' it’s a very popular encryption used on the darknet within xmpp chats. and is considerably better than omemo in security

You know Pidgin 2 is no longer developed since 2018 or so and Pidgin 3 is far into the future yes?

Which version of OTR you want exactly?

Tried OMEMO yet? https://omemo.top/

@FU3X yes, no, maybe, never.

Detail more...

Old OTR (as Pidgin had it) can't be used while contacts are offline, can't be used for multiple devices, can't be used for groups. Is that safer? Yes, you can't write most of the time... the words that you did not post can't be used against you. But the same unavailability might force you to use less secure methods that put you in danger.

New OTR? Who knows? Is that implemented in a working chat app? Not that I know. Is that safer? Silence is the best encryption. :)
