OMEMO information in docs (#388)
Unknown opened 5 years ago

I cannot find any information about OMEMO in the documentation.

I am trying to guide a friend with iphone 8+ and iOS 13.3 to connect with me. I am using Gajim, Profanity, converse.js.

OMEMO fingerprints for the other party cannot be found by any of my clients.

Also, documentation makes no mention of "encryption" or "OMEMO" so don't know where to tell the other party to look for settings to turn on OMEMO, or to inspect own keys.

A recipe at a minimum would be nice.

Thanks.

When you open a conversation with a contact in SiskinIM, you can tap on the top bar with your contact name and status. Then you will get conversation settings for this particular conversation. There is the encryption section which can be used to enable OMEMO for this chat.

As for the discovery of OMEMO keys, Siskin does that automatically once it connects to the XMPP server, so the keys should be published and available for your clients.

Could you tell us which XMPP server are you and your friend using?

I am using someone's ejabberd server. The other party is using jabber.today whatever that is.

It looks like a possible issue with interoperability between two servers. Could you tell use the domain name which you are using?

I also struggled to get a friend with IOS working with OMEMO... Because it's not enabled by default. I really had no way to suggest what he should look at! Had to have someone from the ejabberd MUC send me screenshots.
